Yes, swimming in rain clothes is awesome fun, but also very practical.

I almost always wear a windbreaker (anorak) when swimming outdoors to avoid wind chill and for sunburn protection. Sometimes I wear a long hiking cape. Depending on the weather and water temperature, I vary what I wear underneath.

Another advantage is that rain wear dries quite fast, but prevents clothes underneath to dry too quickly, thus avoiding evaporation cooling.

Finally, if you swim in your rain clothes often enough, the waterproofing wears off and your clothes become very soft and breathable. You can speed this up in a warm soapy bath at home.

You can then wear them on hot sunny days to avoid sunburn. When it rains your clothes underneath get soaked but nobody knows as they assume your rain wear is waterproof.

Have fun and let us know of your adventures.

Felix
